New Wikipedia Jargon
I’m making a suggesting for 2 new words to be added to the Wikipedia Manual of Style:
The action of linking words in a Wikipedia article to the word’s own Wikipedia article for the sake of making the former article more interesting and insightful to readers.
Here, you can find a reference to bluebirding from Wikipedia user FriendlyRiverOtter.
This is a good example of jargon for the sake of jargon.
The action of over-policing Wikipedia thereby making it less desirable to add new pages or content for fear of retribution through article deletion.
There is a wonderful back and forth between the new media artist/blogger Tom Moody and Wikipedia user Jankes regarding the Burnt City Goat gif. Read Tom’s post here: http://goo.gl/Kl7vR and the Wiki talk page between the two here: http://goo.gl/xv2K4.
I’d really like for this one to take off because 1) it’s funny and 2) it’s a way for me to stick it to those guys who keep taking down perfectly fine topics like wiki pages for everyone of the Simpsons characters.
